The State Secondary Education Board (SSEB) was established in 1988 backed up by enabling law Bill No. 4 of 16th June, 2003. The Board has 25 Local Education Committees and 252 Public Secondary Schools and 1 Special Education Centre under its control.
Rt. Hon. Ekaette Ebong Okon (PhD) is the Executive Chairman of the SSEB. She hails from Itu Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State.
She holds Qualifications in NCE, B. SC (Hons) Education/Geography, M.Ed (Childhood Education), M.Ed (Education Administration & Planning), PhD (Educational Management & Planning) and obtained other international certifications.
A former member of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly and Council Chairman of the National Institute for Educational Planning and Administration (NIEPA), Nigeria.
Administering quality education to citizens is what every nation needs to prepare for a competitive future. It is important to ensure that every Akwa Ibom young indigene takes advantage of the Free and Compulsory Education Program offered by the State Government. I therefore use this medium to encourage all stakeholders in the education sector of Akwa Ibom State, to purposefully come together in sincerity, with love, hard work and above all sacrifice to ensure we achieve a stronger and more effective Secondary Education System. This will enable us change the narrative for the betterment of our children and the State at large.

BOARD MEMBER 1
Pastor Dr Markfre Ekefre is from Afaha Ikot Emem Asong Community, Mkpat Enin LGA, Akwa Ibom State.
He holds a B.Sc in Mass Communication, M.Sc in Mass Communication, a Diploma- in Theology and an Honorary Doctor of Divinity (Church Administration).
He is the Editor in Chief of Highlight Newspaper, publisher of the SMT Magazine and news.
Currently the Senior Pastor of Champions City Gospel Church, Uyo.
BOARD MEMBER 2
Hon. Ofon Etim Ukim is the Board member 2 of SSEB. He is from Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government, Akwa Ibom State.
He holds BSc and MBA degrees from the University of Uyo.
A former Education Secretary, a former member of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly representing Ibesikpo Asutan State constituency, a Commissioner in the Local Government Service Commission (LGSC) AKS.
He has also served as a Board Member -Akwa Ibom State Scholarship Board in Akwa Ibom State.
BOARD MEMBER 3
Hon Victor Ini Okon is from Oron Local Government Area in Akwa Ibom State. He holds a B.A. in Philosophy [Hons].
He has served the State as a Special Assistant to the Governor on Grassroot Mobilization, an elected Councilor and Executive Chairman of Oron Local Government Area.
He is an educationist; A Proprietor and has been a Principal in various Secondary Schools.
BOARD MEMBER 4
Hon. Barr. Martins Michael Umanah, JP is a Member of the State Secondary Education Board, Akwa Ibom State. He is from Essien Udim Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State.
He holds a Masters Degree , LL.M in International Law/ Jurisprudence; the Barrister at Law, B.L. from the Nigerian Law School and the Bachelor of Law, LL.B; Certificate in Government Policy Planning and Implementation, from Thames Valley University, London.
Erstwhile Executive Chairman of Essien Udim Local Government Area and State Chairman Association of Local Governments of Nigeria, ALGON.
To act as the marksman for the State in educational planning, management and gathering of data in terms of growth and development in the post- primary subsector.
The Board is determined to be more efficient and active in the day to day running of the system to ensure that the plans and policies of secondary education are properly developed and implemented.
“The problem in Nigeria is not unemployment but capacity building, if we can build our capacity, the certificate will not be an issue”.
